Our definition of self-harm
We use a very broad definition of self-harm in order to raise awareness (including self-awareness) of the range of forms self-harm takes and because we need to look at the whole person and all their self-harming behaviours:
Self-harm is any harm done to the body or mind, internal or external, with short or long-term effects. This would also include harmful behaviours such as not eating properly, over-exercising, over-working, punching walls in anger, risk taking that may result in injury or harm, self-neglect, obsessive negative thinking, sabotaging relationships, continually forming similar damaging relationships and countless more. |
