Raising the issues of self-harm and eating disorders
in schools

Picture
A survivor's story is the most powerful and has the greatest impact on young minds. If you would like one of our survivors to attend your school assemblies or similar slots to talk about self-harm or eating disorders please contact us. Our CEO or volunteers will be frank about the consequences of self-harming or developing an eating disorder and encourage the young people to seek help as early as possible. If self-harm (eating disorders included) is caught early and with the right support the root can be dealt with before the behaviour becomes ingrained.
As a survivor-led and run organisation we are not trying to normalise self-harm, we are trying to normalise talking about self-harm. Talking about self-harm will not make young people take it up. Education results in prevention (same as with similar discussions on drugs, alcohol and knife crime). Even though this service is more appropriate for secondary schools the Battle Scars CEO can run age-appropriate discussions with primary school pupils. The best age to speak about self-harm is 10-11.
